The Accountant, SSTP will perform all financial and accounting duties and will report to the Country Coordinator.
This position is nationally recruited and will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ending 1st July 2017 (project end date).
Specific responsibilities will include:
Performing and checking day-to-day expenditure, encoded expenses to make sure all the payments are made and recorded properly;
Organizing accounting and supporting documents in a well-defined structure and in a good filing system;
Perform monthly accounting closure;
Assisting Grant unit Financial Accounting, Project Management and Donor reporting;
Assisting management of sub grantees for respective projects, reviewing their vouchers and accountability statements/ reports;
Facilitating funds transfers and follows up on any matters arising from received documentation;
Preparing, checking and updating of journals;
Provision of audit information;
Tracking of annual project expenditure against budgets and alerting the Country Coordinator deviations from expected rates of expenditure;
Assisting in processing of staffs travel expenses claims and project advance settlements;
Raising invoices and following up on reimbursements of project costs;
Providing guidance to project partners/sub grantees and staff on USAID and AGRA financial requirements;
Responsible for preparation of payroll and distribution of payroll costs to appropriate general ledger accounts;
Ensuring all taxes and other obligations are settled on a timely basis; and
Performing other duties as assigned.
Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance /Accounting or related field;
Minimum of five years’ work experience in senior accounting positions in NGOs, preferably USAID projects;
Proficient in Excel and Word with proven ability of working with Quicken Software, Peachtree Software;
Must be able to work independently with little supervision and attention to detail;
Strong numerical skills with an understanding of organizational finances; and
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
