Finance Officer – Population Council

Key Responsibilities:
Process payment by verifying invoices and other primary support documents for accuracy and completeness.
Prepare general ledger batches and journal entries into the accounting software and generate basic financial reports while ensuring accuracy in coding and correct allocation of expenditures.
Manage the reconciliation of bank accounts, receivable and payable accounts.
Prepare and submit monthly office expense report including resolution of any outstanding queries;
Prepare and timely submission of statutory returns i. e PAYE, withholding tax, NSSF, NHIF and HELB.
Process staff travel and field advances returns and ensure accuracy, completeness and adherence to travel & other related policies.
Optimize the usage of financial and operations systems in collaboration with IT staff.
Monitor approved grant’s budgets and work with Program staff to ensure spending is on target.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience
Master’s degree with a major in accounting or finance, professional accounting qualification, CPA or ACCA.
Should have good knowledge of accounting packages and spreadsheets – Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), QuickBooks, FUND E-Z.
Demonstrated knowledge of online banking systems and 5 years’ experience in a busy accounting office in a non-profit organization will be an added advantage.
Knowledge of grants regulations and prior experience optimizing the usage of financial and operations systems preferred.
Demonstrate flexibility, ability to multitask, detail-orientated, sense of urgency, positive and honesty.
Ability to respond appropriately to unexpected requests and shifting priorities.
Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
