Driver – Action Africa Help – International

ACTION AFRICA HELP- KENYA is a non-governmental organization that addresses development challenges in partnership with marginalized Kenyan communities mainly living in low income settings in urban and rural settings including arid and semi-arid areas (ASALs). AAH Kenya is an affiliate country programme of Action Africa Help International (AAH-I), which has been operating in the East and Southern Africa region for more than 20 years implementing programmes in South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia, Somalia and Kenya.

AAH Kenya is implementing a project in Mara Division called the Mara Division Enterprise Development Project (MDED). The project’s goal is to strengthen the community’s resilience and capacity to lead their own development through supporting an entrepreneurial mind-set in community members. This project will be working with livestock keepers, women and youth in the Mara division to address their economic development issues that will increase their income.

JOB TITLE: DRIVER
This position is part of the MDED Project, which seeks undertake a process which will encourage the communities living in the Mara to carry out their activities as a business and use their resource to improve their living standards.

AAH-K is seeking a qualified and committed individual to join the team as a driver. The incumbent will also be the project ambassador in the community and work closely with the Project officer and community focal persons to support activities in Mara Division.

SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver and collect goods, parcels and letters as required in the most cost efficient way.
Responsible for transporting staff and partners for official engagements.
Supervise and assist with loading and off-loading of goods at the site upon arrival as well as when picking goods.
Maintain the vehicle log book indicating mileage, task accomplished, departure and arrival times, and fuel taken to enable proper monitoring of the vehicle movement as well as costs.
Ensure cleanliness and carry out routine maintenance checks daily and report any observed faults to the supervisor so that repairs can be arranged and servicing booked.
Ensure the vehicle insurance is valid and prompt for its renewal when renewal time is drawing close to ensure that the car is continually insured.
Maintain work records, time and material records on vehicle services.
Monitor the security of vehicle, authorized passengers and luggage in line with the vehicle policy.
Prepare and submit vehicle monthly reports in line with the AAH I Vehicle Policy.
Assist the project officer in organization of stakeholder meetings, community sensitization and community project activities

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Secondary level education with technical training an advantage
Resident of Narok County with excellent verbal and written English, Swahili and the local languages
At least Three years work experience as a driver of which at least 1 year should be relevant NGO experience in community projects and good computer skills
Ability to work well independently and in a team under pressure and with minimal supervision
Ability to work for longer hours and sometimes in the weekend and holidays when called upon
Good working knowledge with communities in the Mara especially with MDDP will be an added advantage.
Ability to work well with people with diverse cultures, beliefs and different religious and political affiliations
Ability to establish a strong working relations with the community members and colleagues
Clean valid national driver’s licence preferably class BCE
No major accidents in the past 3 years
