OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
In coordination with the Environment and Climate Change Team Leader, the Environment and Climate Change Specialist manages energy projects with the objective of reducing the ICRC’s environmental footprint and promoting sustainable development at delegations or in relation to field programmes.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the Environment and Climate Change (ECC) competency unit in Nairobi, identifies, tests, and promotes green technologies in energy management and energy efficiency (including diesel generator sizing) for all ICRC sites participating to the Sustainable Delegation Programme;
Monitors industry best-practices in energy management and energy efficiency and identifies where improvements can be integrated to ICRC premises;
Conducts site-level energy audits following the ICRC’s defined methodology, analysing energy data to determine energy consumption and defining measures to reduce that consumption and develops business cases for energy efficiency solutions for ICRC premises;
Supports ICRC premises in the procurement of green energy equipment ranging from market research, requests for quotations, and technical evaluation, and assists during their installation;
In cooperation with representatives of a delegation or field programme, defines energy management or energy efficiency projects, including objectives, budget, and implementation plan;
Manages projects (including budget, deliverables, KPIs monitoring, stakeholders) to reduce fossil energy consumption of ICRC premises or ICRC operations;
With the support of the ECC team leader and the ECC team in Geneva, translates the ICRC’s energy efficiency strategy into guidelines and concrete projects, through the definition and implementation of a project charter and following project management best-practices;
Develops and updates documents for the follow-up of the programme to the premises, site management and the team in Geneva. Especially, captures lessons learned from the projects and supports dissemination of the findings and best practices;
Organizes or takes part in training to raise awareness of ICRC employees about energy efficiency measures and renewable energy integration;
Assists in designing communication materials for ICRC premises on energy management and other relevant sustainable development topics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND AND COMPETENCIES
University degree in Electrical engineering or equivalent;
Minimum 3-5 years’ work experience in a similar field (in a dynamic environment);
Project Management Training/Certificate;
Experience in an international organization or NGO;
Excellent Computer Skills (Word, Excel, Power point) with experience in ERPs;
Excellent command of written and spoken English;
Attentive to details, rigorous with high sense of confidentiality and integrity;
Able to write clear and concise reports, procedures, and quality documents
