Job Summary
The Payroll Officer responsibilities include calculating employees’ compensation, updating internal payroll databases and ensuring timely payments and distribution of payslips. The incumbent will also ensure timely salary advances and statutory payments. Ultimately, the job holder’s overall responsibility is to ensure a smooth and accurate payroll process.
Responsibilities
Collect daily, weekly or monthly time-sheets
Calculate bonuses and allowances
Prepare employees’ compensation by the end of each month using payroll software
Distribute payment statements and payslips
Report on payroll expenses
Ensure wages and tax withholdings comply with regulations
Enter new employees’ data (e.g. bank accounts and tax identification numbers) into internal databases
Ensure compliance with statutory processing and payments
Process salary advances
Answer questions about compensation, benefits, taxes and insurance deductions
Requirements and skills
BSc in Accounting, Human Resources or relevant field
Proven work experience as a Payroll Officer for between 500 to 1000 employees
Hands-on experience with HRIS and accounting software
Strong math skills (good with numbers) with an ability to spot numerical errors
Good knowledge of labour laws
Time-management skills
Ability to handle sensitive information with utmost confidentiality
Ability to work long hours with minimal supervision
