The Health NGOs Network (HENNET) was formed in 2005 to bring together CSOs whose core mandate is health in Kenya. A functional HENNET secretariat was set up in 2006 and currently, is hosted by AMREF Kenya Country Office in Nairobi. The Network’s mission is “To stimulate linkages and strategic partnerships among health NGOs, government, Development Partners and the private sector in order to enhance their responses towards health needs of Kenyans “. HENNET objectives include support to its members to: meaningfully engage in the Kenya health sector at coordination, implementation and monitoring levels, actively participate in development and implementation of national health strategies and policies, facilitating the sharing of knowledge, skills, research findings, information, best practices and lessons learnt among HENNET members and support capacity development of this members in relevant areas of common interest.www.hennet.or.ke.
HENNET has received grants from GAVI through CRS to continue supporting CSOs to strengthen their national platforms meaningful, effective and inclusive engagement in Health system strengthening. HENNET seeks to recruit a programme officer for the project for a period of one year.
PROGRAMME OFFICER
The successful applicant will be based at HENNET Secretariat’s office in Nairobi with frequent travels to the counties and reports to the National Coordinator.
Basic Functions
The program officer will oversee implementation of a policy and advocacy strategy in support of CSOs; provide expertise on a broad range of policy issues, and closely work with HENNET county chapters to deliver GAVI immunization objectives. The incumbent is expected to develop policy and communication briefs, targeting specific areas in the HENNET and GAVI advocacy agenda.
Key Responsibilities
Support implementation of the HENNET Strategic plan and work plan.
Generate ideas and discussions on new advocacy and research projects that will make substantive contributions to immunization policy.
Engage with policy makers at county, regional and international levels on immunization and health systems strengthening issues
Work with consultants to produce quality immunization resource materials for the network.
Implement and coordinate all the networks internal communications, media interactions and external public relations.
Analyze policies specific to immunization and health systems strengthening.
Represent HENNET in meetings
Manage assigned budget and ensure proper expenditure reporting
Facilitating the participation of HENNET members in key activities and other relevant key stakeholder forums especially on health systems strengthening and child health related forums.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.
Education/Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a First Degree in Social Sciences; Health, development or related degree.
Hands on experience in a health NGO is desirable.
Must have good understanding of the health sector particularly the laws and policies, coupled with knowledge of working with the Ministries of Health, County governments and Civil Society Organizations.
Knowledge of program management , health systems strengthening and immunization an added advantage.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
The candidate should be able to work under pressure and beyond designated working hours if need be.
In addition the ideal candidate must have sound IT knowledge; word processing, spreadsheets, databases and publication applications and be a team player.
