JOB SUMMARY:
The position will be responsible for leading a team of junior data scientists to develop world-class agronomy recommendations algorithms for farmers throughout Kenya. They will interface with farmers to make complex, sophisticated AgOptimized technology come to life in the context.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct reviews on published scientific papers for agronomy algorithms;
Lead and coordinate all development tasks related to the building of AgOptimized data pipelines, scientific models, and web APIs;
Mentor junior data scientists on all stages of data preparation, modelling, testing and deployment of algorithms into production;
Assist SunCulture Product and Business Development teams on aligning AI development roadmap with the company business strategy
REQUIREMENTS:
Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics with diverse work experience;
Technical experience in applying environmental information obtained by sensors and Earth Observation data sources to the development of agriculture algorithms or decision support systems for crop management;
High scientific computing technical knowledge, analytical and research skills;
Strong background in meteorology and hydrology;
Experience in processing large environmental datasets from numerical models forecasts and reanalysis and satellites;
Experience in creating and developing data ingestion pipelines, big data infrastructure and AI-based APIs;
Experience with diverse modern computer languages such as Python, R, C#, Javascript/Typescript, Java/Scala/Clojure and Elixir;
Experience with functional and object-oriented software development;
Experience with project management using Agile methodologies such as Scrum
Experience creating and understanding digital content;
Has worked with sophisticated software/hardware, such as weather stations and soil sensors;
Comfortable with ambiguity and working with remote coworkers
Familiar with IoT
