Job Summary: The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for the academic curriculum of the institution, providing leadership to the faculty and managing the processes through which teaching is conducted and administered at The M-PESA Foundation Academy.
The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for all curricula offerings, and oversees all the faculty members who are responsible for administering, advising, research, and innovation in the various programs of instructions and KCSE subject offerings.
The role has supervisory responsibility over all the academic departments at The M-PESA Academy.
In addition, the Director of Teaching and Learning manages the student and parent expectations, providing guidance on subject choices.
About the Academy: Our client, The M-PESA Foundation Academy is a state of the art, mixed boarding high school that will provide world class Kenyan education. The vision of The Academy is to develop transformational leaders through innovative approaches to education.
The core curriculum of The Academy is the 8-4-4 curriculum. The academic concepts shall be covered in exciting and innovative ways.
Great focus will be given to entrepreneurship and leadership, giving the students time to learn outside of the classroom, explore the arts and take part in sports. The Academy will serve talented but economically disadvantaged students with demonstrated leadership potential.
The Academy will cultivate the students’ abilities to innovate irrespective of their academic strengths or weaknesses. As such, students will work with teachers and one another to design projects that can solve real world challenges.
Students who graduate from The Academy will be leaders ¡n their fields of interest such as business, academia, politics, sports and the arts. They will be the entrepreneurs and community leaders who will drive Kenya forward.
The Academy will admit its first ever students in January 2016. It is in this view that The M-PESA

Key Responsibilities
Define and develop clear standards for student success;
Promote research into best practice content delivery ensuring students attain a broad and deep knowledge across all subject areas but derive immense inspiration and enjoyment from the learning process;
Adopt and develop innovative pedagogical approaches that will be shared with other high schools across Kenya;
Leverage on non-curricular activities such as sports, community work and clubs to enhance and inculcate leadership and entrepreneurial skills;
Leverage technology to provide access to quality education resources within and beyond the walls of The Academy;
Oversee and manage professional and continuous learning opportunities for teaching and non-teaching staff to enable them to deliver the unique curriculum; and
Think, speak and act with genuine curiosity, open-mindedness and empathy for both faculty and students.
Person Specifications
Advanced Degree in Education or equivalent;
At least 10 years in teaching leadership in a comparable institution;
Demonstrated high creativity and ability to develop a curriculum that is flexible and supported by responsive teaching and effective learning environments;
Ability to use emerging technologies to enhance and extend teaching and learning experiences;
Experience in modelling the highest standards of professional practice and interaction with students is essential;
Ability to foster a supportive environment for students and staff to realise their full potential.
Demonstrated success developing, cultivating and leveraging productive, trusting and joyful relationships with faculty, students, parents, families, staff and external stakeholders; and
Experience engaging, empowering and managing a high-performing team.
