African Reference Laboratory – African Union – InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources

Summary of Award Opportunity
The African Union Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is a specialized technical office reporting to the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture of the AU Commission. The Institution is mandated to support and coordinate the improvement of Animal Resources (livestock, fisheries, bees and wildlife) as a resource for human well-being in the member states of the African Union and contribute to economic development, particularly in rural areas.

In the framework of the implementation of the EU funded project on “African reference laboratory (with satellite stations) for the management of pollinator bee diseases and pests for food security’ ‘’Bee Project’’, which on one hand will facilitate more efficient knowledge management systems, provide skills and resources necessary to raise awareness and profiles of the stakeholders, provide policy makers and regulators with advice (with the aim of harmonizing procedures and legislation relating to bee health issues at national, regional and continental levels), and enhance the capacity of representatives of beekeepers associations and extensions workers to acquire information and utilize improved bee health technologies & innovations and on the other hand strengthen and support national beekeepers associations or regional beekeepers associations to increase and promote local market linkages, export market development and promotion of regional and international institutional linkages, thus the urgency and the need to strengthen and support national or regional beekeepers associations to be effectively operational.

In order to efficiently target the most indicated beekeepers Associations for its financial support toward the implementation of their activities, the project proposed to send out Calls for proposals which will lead to awards of Grants.

The following call for proposals is composed of six sections:
The first describe the award as well as the framework in which it is availed,
The second provides the necessary information on the award among which the total available funds and the possible amounts of the awards.
The third refers to the eligibility conditions while the fourth provides the methodology to apply.
The last 2 sections focus respectively on the analysis of the applications and the provision of support or guiding information to ease application.Full documentation to be downloaded on AU-IBAR website.
