Overall Position Description:
This is a position based in Kakuma. The Assistant Counselling Coordinator is responsible for the JRS counselling Department in Kakuma, under the direction and supervision of the Kakuma Project Director and the programme coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
Be actively involved in planning, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of the Counselling programmes to refugees and individuals in Kakuma Camp.
Organise for individual, group, and family counselling as well as PFA (Psychological First Aid) debriefing among refugees in the camp.
Work in conjunction with counselling coordinator and community counsellors to further develop and implementation of the psychological programs for refugees in Kakuma
Offer cancelling services as required and make referrals or home visits and follow ups as necessary
Carry out weekly monitoring and evaluation of the programs and produce weekly/ monthly/ quarterly statistics and reports with the assistance of the centre supervisor.
Have in depth knowledge of needs of victims especially victims of gender crimes, children, and methodologies to address these needs with a multidisciplinary approach, recruit and train incentive staff to assist in the implementation of program, services.
Develop/update training modules
Conduct training for incentives staff in various counselling topics
Oversee centres morning meetings /supervision when possible
Assist in- service trainings
Assist in overseeing alternative healing program
Contribute to project proposals and reports and provide reporting on activities
Ensure service are offered in a professional and ethical manner
Ensure that proper client’s records are kept and exercise discretion, tact and accuracy in handling confidential information.
Be actively involved in advocacy on behalf of refugees
Participate in any other program’s activity as agreed with the counselling coordinator or the PD
Desired Qualifications and Professional Experience:
University degree, preferably in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Counselling or equivalent
Bachelor’s degree/Post-graduate diploma with at least two (2) years of experience working with NGOs in Counselling and mental health programs
Professional experience in a similar capacity with international, non-profit organizations;
Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills
Ability to positively influence others and successfully reconcile differences
Self-starter with a strong results orientation and with high levels of integrity, credibility and dependability
An energetic team player who can effectively collaborate, and who can stand alone when necessary
Highly proactive management and coordination skills, ensuring effective and efficient workflow
Ability to work in international settings and with various departments to implement successful approaches to psychosocial matters.
Demonstrated resilience and ability to work and deliver under pressure and tight deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills and a mind for innovation
Experience in advocacy and networking

Languages
Excellent proficiency in written and verbal English; a professional working knowledge of a language spoken in the country is desirable. Knowledge of French and Arabic an added advantage.
