The Opportunity: Having started operations in Kenya in 2006, Real People has over the years expanded to cover other regional countries like Uganda and Tanzania.

The division’s core business is the provision of business finance and housing finance in the Eastern Africa region.

From its head office in Nairobi, the company serves these markets through a network of branches and satellite offices in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

It currently has 10 main branches and seven satellite offices in Kenya, three branches in Uganda and two branches in Tanzania.

Real People’s East Africa operations are built on a focused portfolio of businesses. Its services are anchored on the provision of responsible finance solutions to individuals and businesses through tailored products such as the Business Finance Loan, the Asset Finance Loan and the Housing Finance Loan.

The Housing Finance loan is designed to offer customers financing to construct their houses from beginning to completion.

The loans offer up to a 30% cash option to meet labor and utility costs.

Real People Kenya Limited is looking to recruit a dynamic Business Development Officer – Housing to:
Join a dynamic team where they will apply their skills learnt working in a Mortgage/Housing finance environment to contribute to the profitability of the Housing Department by effectively achieving set sales targets through actively and proactively identifying sales opportunities for the Housing Finance product;
To keep the portfolio at risk at the acceptable minimum through actively following up on all clients for timely repayments;
To proactively and continuously deliver service excellence.
The Mandate

Reporting to the Housing Regional Manager, the Business Development Officer will be responsible for:.

Sales and Marketing:
Proactively drive sales through a combination of advertising, customer referrals and viral marketing (word of mouth).
Manage own sales production performance and implement corrective actions to achieve target objectives.
Contribute to the profitability of the Housing Department by meeting the set individual sales targets.
Effectively achieving set sales targets by actively and proactively identifying opportunities.
Building relationships with potential clients by keeping in contact with them and making regular contacts to provide support and close on sales.
Attend and contribute to all planning and review meetings.
Loan Appraisals:
Ensure all financial computations are correct and customers meet affordability criteria;
Ensure all the information and data gathered is consistent and is verified by mandatory physical visits to the client’s business and residence;
Ensure cash flow and repayment capacity are correct and comparable to other similar businesses;
Ensure loan structuring fits the business, personal capacity and project;
Assessment of collateral by ensuring correct valuation, physical verification of existence and ownership and ensuring it adequately covers the loan value;
Portfolio Management:
Responsible for managing the relationship between clients and the organization.
Responsible for engaging valuers in client property valuation upon completion of the construction period.
Responsible for clients’ loan performance by educating the clients on the need to repay their loans in the stipulated loan terms through loan performance monitoring to avoid default
Collect customer feedback to identify areas of product or service improvements.
Collect and provide up to date customer data.
Provide professional customer services to clients and identify repeat business opportunities.
Explain compliance requirements to clients and reasons for non approval of loan applications where necessary and in a constructive way to build company and individual integrity;
Maintain a reminder system to ensure that follow ups are made to the clients and proactively contact existing clients to inform them of new products, if they meet all requirements.
Ensure that all customer complaints/queries are dealt with immediately and that a record is kept of all actions taken to resolve the complaint and that the customer receives regular feedback regarding progress.
Assessment of guarantor to ensure they meet our affordability criteria through mandatory physical visits to the guarantor’s business and residence;
Participate as a member of the approval committee, including verification visits to customers’ business premises and homes with Approval Officers.
Collections:
Submit daily collection reports as and when required.
Review and follow through on arrears reports for own customer base.
Make collection visits to the customers in arrears.
Follow-up with customers in the enforcement of re-payment arrangements

Bachelor’s degree in business with a focus on Marketing, Business Administration or a related course.
At least 3 years sales experience preferably within a financial institution, of which 2 years should be in Housing/Mortgage Finance
