Call for Expression of Interest to Develop Promotional Materials – Nairobi – Norwegian Church Aid

Background: Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has worked in Kenya since 1984. Under its current Country Plan 2011-2015, NCA Kenya focuses broadly on two programme areas namely; Climate Justice and Gender Justice with livelihoods (Economic Justice) as a cross cutting theme.

NCA Kenya works in 6 cluster locations, namely Kajiado, Tana River, Lamu, Mt Kenya Region – Embu, Mandera, Yatta and Nairobi and partners with the following organisations and community platforms;

Anglican Church in Kenya (ACK)
Women Empowerment Link (WEL),
NOSIM Women Organisation (NOSIM)
HABIBA International
Building Eastern Africa Community Network (BEACON)
Kenya Small Coffee Growers Association
St. John Community Centre (SJCC)
Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA)
Mully Children Family (MCF)
Kipini Integrated Community Enterprise (KICE)
Pwani Jatropha Enterprise (PJE)
Embu community
Kenya Youth Climate Network (KYCN)
Korogocho Community Radio (KOCH FM)

NCA Kenya also supports National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) and 3 other regional organisations based in Kenya working on mobilising faith communities for peace.

A summary of current NCA programme areas is as follows;

Gender Justice Programme: Using a multi- pronged approach the Gender Justice Programme is geared towards promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

It addresses gender-based violence as a hindrance to the attainment of gender justice, and promoting gender mainstreaming both within NCA and in partner organizations.

The programme also supports equitable and qualitative participation of women in leadership and decision making both with Faith Based Organizations and in society in general.

Sensitization and awareness-raising as well as lobbying, advocacy, capacity building and documentation are important components of the programme.

Climate Justice Programme: The programme promotes climate mitigation and adaptation measures.

Key components of this programme are policy influencing and mobilization especially of young people to engage and inform processes geared towards accountable and sustainable development, securing access to renewable energy by ‘energy-poor’ communities through reduction of fossil fuel dependency whilst contributing to the reduction of emissions; mitigating deforestation and land degradation; and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

The Programme also seeks to address climate induced risks through diversification and strengthening of livelihood assets, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and advocacy action for an enabling policy environment.

Economic Justice (Livelihood and Trade) as a cross cutting component this component of NCA’s work seeks to support individuals through their organisations and associations to improve their economic situation.

The Programme supports smallholder farmers, particularly coffee farmers, dairy farmers and fisher folks to organize themselves in associations in order to strengthen their position and improve interaction with the private market actors.

The programme also works with young people in informal settlements to better their livelihoods through various income generating activities.
