Job Summary: The CEO is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the Academy by working with the Board and the management team to establish long-term goals, strategies, plans, and policies.

With the unique set-up of The M-PESA Foundation Academy, the CEO will ensure an environment that promotes excellence in critical assessment, academic research, and educator improvement programs.

About the Academy: Our client, The M-PESA Foundation Academy is a state of the art, mixed boarding high school that will provide world class Kenyan education. The vision of The Academy is to develop transformational leaders through innovative approaches to education. The core curriculum of The Academy is the 8-4-4 curriculum. The academic concepts shall be covered in exciting and innovative ways.

Great focus will be given to entrepreneurship and leadership, giving the students time to learn outside of the classroom, explore the arts and take part in sports. The Academy will serve talented but economically disadvantaged students with demonstrated leadership potential.

The Academy will cultivate the students’ abilities to innovate irrespective of their academic strengths or weaknesses. As such, students will work with teachers and one another to design projects that can solve real world challenges.

Students who graduate from The Academy will be leaders ¡n their fields of interest such as business, academia, politics, sports and the arts. They will be the entrepreneurs and community leaders who will drive Kenya forward.

The Academy will admit its first ever students in January 2016. It is in this view that The M-PESA Foundation Academy is seeking to recruit dynamic and visionary individuals with exceptional skills in the following capacities.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
Develop a strategy geared towards building a world class institution producing transformational leaders;
Identify, develop and leverage key partnerships with a view to strengthening and continually expanding its capacity to innovate and deliver quality education sustainably;
Lead in the development of The Academy’s overall academic and non-academic offerings;
Build the appropriate processes and infrastructure that ensure a continuous, highly interactive and vibrant learning environment;
Lead in the development and resourcing of budgets while ensuring fiscal discipline;
Understand and manage key risks including operational, compliance and legislative risks;
Interact with and manage key stakeholders, including but not limited to the Board, Ministry of Education, parents/guardians, donors and funding agencies, regional and international academic institutions and community stakeholders; and
Define and establish The Academy’s brand and culture as well as ensure that all staff embody the unique ethos of The Academy.

Person Specifications
A minimum Masters’ Degree in business or education;
A hybrid background in business and education, preferably one who has had extensive experience in establishing and running non-traditional learning institutions;
A strong entrepreneurial background;
Proven track record of leading and developing people, delivering strategic projects and achieving financial and sustainability goals;
Ability to build, maintain and leverage strong and varied relationships; and
Energy, tenacity and resilience.
