Chief Operating Officer – Nairobi – Adept Systems Management Consultants

Key Functions:
Manage all retail operations as “Profit Centers” in line with company’s sales objectives;
Develop and deliver sales budgets, forecast volume turnover and review all the key operations parameters periodically to ensure that these are aligned towards strategic priorities;
Manage all day to day operational issues in retail outlets under supervision;
Provide strong leadership and direction to all the sales teams including managing their performance, continuously training and developing them and providing opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities:
Develop and prepare short-term and long-range plans and budgets in consultation with the CEO and based on broad organisation goals and objectives.
Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly budgets, revenue and sales forecasts.
Effectively direct all business operations to achieve budgeted results, margins and other financial criteria and to preserve the capital funds invested in the enterprise.
Appraise and evaluate the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and report these to the CEO regularly with relevant recommendations.
Develop and establish operating policies, standard operating procedures for each store and operational standards consistent with the CEO’s broad policies and objectives and ensure these are fully executed.
Review daily sales reports from all assigned stores and ensure accuracy of reported results as well as follow up on and conclusively address any recurrent and outstanding issues.
Take charge of the supply chain function and plan all activities including effectively coordinating the procurement and movement of consignments to ensure a smooth operation.
Ensure that the SAP systems are effectively utilised and managed to accurately code and price stock prior to dispatch; maintain optimum stock levels across all operations and per store, track movement of stocks and reporting amongst others.
Ensure that all activities and operations are performed in all areas of operation are in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
Carry out regular price comparisons from various suppliers and make adequate recommendations on pricing.
Carry out monthly audits of each profit centre and make recommendations for improvements and adjustments geared towards improving operations and enhancing controls.
Direct the development, implementation and enforcement of procedures and controls to promote smooth and open communication and adequate information flow.
Prepare and submit reports as and when required.
Lead and manage all staff and effectively manage them in line with company policies, continuously motivate and recognise talent and provide continuous training on customer care, product knowledge, displays etc.

Experience:
A business graduate with demonstrable knowledge of retail operations and at least seven (7) years experience in retail operations at a senior level; individuals with at least three (3) years experience of local and international travel retail will be at an advantage.
Business minded individual who has the capacity to understand and interpret sales and financial results and reports for effective decision making and problem solving.
A very strong planner with knowledge of logistics/ supply chain coordination and the capacity to effectively manage operations in line with consignment delivery timelines and logistics lead times.
Knowledge of modern retail methodologies and practices gained from local and international markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Proven successes in retail sales and business development gained from working with local international retail businesses or multinationals.
Strong negotiation skills and ability to build mutually beneficial business relationships internally and externally
Strong leader with proven management skills i.e. in developing effective operations and structures, putting in place standard operating procedures, enforcing company policies and managing talent to assure high performance and opportunities for growth.
Hands on and willing to travel.
