About Us: Founded in 2004, Kesho takes a holistic approach to change by offering financial support for education, academic and literacy support, enrichment and training, child protection and family support for nearly 2000 children, their peers and family members.
The Position Reporting to the Child Protection Officer, the Child Protection Assistant will be responsible for supporting our child protection work and to enable Kesho meet it’s strategic financial and programme objectives.
The position is for an initial contract period of 1 year and renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
The position location is Kesho office, Kilifi.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Carrying out needs assessment for Kesho Families through home visits and issues raised in other forums.
Attending to walk-in clients, accompanying clients to hospitals, children’s department, outings etc.
Conducting follow ups and home visits on issues concerning shelter, health, food until the issue is resolved
Participating in community outreach programmes to sensitise the community on the rights and welfare of women and children.
Participate in seminars, workshops, conferences on issues related to the rights of children and women.
Writing monthly reports about the activities carried out.
Working alongside other Programme Officers to positively engage parents and promote family based activities such as the Annual Family Fun Day.
Supporting the Home Cluster Groups with mothers living in Kilifi and near to each other, to provide a forum for discussing and engaging in a range of activities which promote self-sufficiency and empowerment
Education:
Diploma in Social work or community development from a reputable institution
Knowledge in basic counselling an added advantage.
Experience:
At-least 2 years experience in community work.
Professional experience working with National/international/NGO and experience in child rights and women empowerment.
Knowledge of community based child protection approaches and Alternative Care Processes preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies.
Comprehensive knowledge of case management and Best Interest Assessment processes for children at risk, particularly in rural settings is a plus.
Proficiency in IT including ability to use MS application packages ( Word, Excel and database software).
Strong writing skills and experience in preparing quality reports.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing program priorities.
Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
Fluency in Kiswahili, English (written and Spoken).
Knowledge of the local language will be an added advantage.
