Communications and Outreach Associate – Food and Agriculture Organization

Tasks And Responsibilities
Support and coordinate all RTEAs communication, outreach, mapping/dashboards and graphic design needs.
In liaison with RTEA technical officers, be responsible for compiling and preparing country and regional Fall Armyworm dashboards seasonally.
Support the design and implementation of communication/outreach/advocacy activities related to RTEAs resilience programme in the region, ensuring they are in line with FAO’s corporate communication policy and strategy
Support the conceptual and graphic design, production and dissemination of quality communication products including news, human interest stories, fact sheets, donor briefs, project updates, briefings and press releases;
Assist in identifying and packaging feature stories and other material to be profiled through sub-regional, regional and HQ offices to facilitate advocacy and fund-raising activities;
Support RTEA project managers to successfully ensure project communication and visibility as per donor requirements.
Assist in editing and review of project reports ensuring adherence to FAO and donor formats.
Assist with the planning and executing communications events, including media, and photographic missions.
Travel, as needed, to support communication, advocacy and outreach at country level or in relation to sub-regional programmes.
Monitor the media coverage on resilience issues in the sub-region related to RTEAs programme.
Assist in developing and feeding information to RTEA associated websites and social media platforms; Other related duties, as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
Secondary education or University degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related field
10 years of relevant professional experience in communication, public relations and/or media with Secondary Education or 6 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree;
Fluency in English, with excellent writing skills
National of Kenya

Technical/Functional Skills
Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in the Africa region, is desirable
Extent and relevance of knowledge and field experience in a technical area of assignment listed above
Extent and relevance of knowledge in the developing and implementing effective media and communication materials in support of outreach and visibility;
Extent and relevance of knowledge and understanding of the work of international organizations, regional entities and national governments
Demonstrated ability in communication, public relations and/or media outreach
Good judgment and ability to organize office work and prepare correspondence on own initiative.
Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing effective media and communication materials in support of outreach and visibility
Demonstrated experience in basic GIS/mapping and graphic design.
Excellent organizational skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines;
Excellent IT skills, including experience in working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Publisher), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) as well as working with multi-media products.
Good understanding of humanitarian/development and resilience issues of East Africa.
