Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the Media Council of Kenya, the Communications & Information Officer will:-
- Conceptualise and develop communication and advocacy strategies including production of information, communication and education materials.
- Produce and edit the Council’s quarterly newsletter, The Media Observer, as well as other Council’s publications including annual reports, media monitoring and research publications and other public information materials such as press releases and policy briefs.
- Develop effective support networks and positive working relationships with government agencies, NGO’s, development partners and media stakeholders.
- Organise public engagement and media stakeholders’ forums on media performance, including emerging issues and training to create understanding on the role of the Media Council and to build support and ownership of the media regulation process.
- Identify and support the Council’s communication and marketing needs to help raise its profile, as well as publicise its mandate, objectives and activities.
- Respond to internal information and communication needs.
- Assist to identify Audio/Visual needs to cover Council activities where appropriate and coordinate media coverage of international events hosted by the Council.
- Manage the institution’s website including interactive social sites and timely respond to inquiries raised by stakeholders and members of the public on the function and work of the Media Council and related journalism profession in Kenya.
- Filter lessons learnt from public and stakeholders’ engagements, social sites, meetings and conferences and coherently and in report format communicate the same to the management and the board to aid in policy decision.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
- Degree in social sciences, journalism or related field from a recognised institution.
- Relevant Master’s Degree together with the above qualifications will be an added advantage.
- Experience in writing and editing of reports, publication of magazines and preferably an individual who has worked in a media house either as an editor or sub-editor.
- Relevant experience in public engagement and substantive and demonstrated understanding of Kenya’s media scene.
- Three (3) years’ experience in a similar position either in a media house or media institution.
- Demonstrated high level of personal achievement and effectiveness; highly motivated and ready for a challenging career.
- Outstanding communication skills including excellent spoken and written English.
