Consultancy on Procurement – Aga Khan Foundation

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) works in collaboration with partners to develop and promote innovative solutions that contribute to improving the quality of life in East Africa.

AKF is currently implementing the Supporting Complementary Schools for Equitable Education (SUCSEED) which is part of the Kenya Essential Education Programme (KEEP), a three-year Department for International Development (DFID) funded project that seeks to focus on the critical issues of access, equity, and accountability in the education sector in the informal settlements.

Most schools in the informal settlement are characterized by lack of adequate water and sanitation facilities, poor lighting and inefficient use of cooking stoves causing indoor air pollution.

AKF is therefore, seeking a skilled, competent and experienced Consultant / Agency to procure climate related commodities from pre-selected vendors to help address the challenges of a poor environment and reduce the impact of climate change in a minimum of 150 schools across informal settlements of Nairobi and Mombasa Counties.

Specifically, the Consultant shall be responsible for:
Developing an output table outlining intervention areas, specifically in terms of: service provider, cost, quantity, delivery date, training (if required) and maintenance procedures.
Managing the procurement, delivery and installation of commodities.
Conducting monthly monitoring to target schools to ensure quality assurance.
Submission of monthly narrative and financial reports on the progress achieved against set targets.
Submission of final report outlining achievements/variances, challenges and recommendations for sustainability of interventions.
The Consultant should have the following background, skills and experience:
A Masters degree in a relevant discipline, such as project management.
Minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant, practical experience in procurement, installation and coordination of hardware, with at least three (3) years of experience in working with climate related commodities such as solar lighting, sanitation facilities, rain water harvesting and energy efficient stoves.
Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
Proven experience in the East African business, development and social sector.
Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and knowledge of Kiswahili is preferred.
