French Speaking Sub-Regional Cluster – Children’s Villages International Representative

Context of the position
Established in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages International is a dynamic, international social development organization working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of orphaned and vulnerable children.
Within the Eastern and Southern Africa region, SOS CV International is headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and has member associations in Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Somali/Somaliland, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius, Angola and Madagascar.

Mission of the position:
The mission of SOS children’s villages’ international representative (cvi representative) is to be the link between the general secretariat (GSC) and the respective member associations (MAs), ensuring positive interaction and supporting the member association in all areas, especially in organisational development and good governance, as well as facilitating and monitoring the implementation of the federation’s policies.
This position is responsible for the French speaking cluster of member associations within the Eastern and Southern Africa Region which are Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi, Mauritius and Madagascar.
This position ensures that the above member associations have a close, reliable GSC partner who supports them in general operations and managerial areas. The CVI representative is not only building trustworthy relationships, but also enhancing the confidence of the federation that the MA boards shall make appropriate decisions to fulfil its vision.
For member associations that do not have established National Boards, the CVI representative provides direct management support to the National Director (ND), and the ND reports directly to the CVI representative responsible for the assigned country. Additionally, the CVI representative promotes good partnership between the Member Associations (MAs) and the promoting and supporting Associations(PSA’s).

Position Responsibilities
1. The post-holder will be responsible for the General Secretariat managed Member associations and supervise the National Directors as delegated by the International Director – ESAF Region
2. Steer the process of establishing Board of Directors where they are currently non-existent
3. Represent the Federation in the Member Association and strengthen capability of Boards of Directors, where they are duly established.

Competencies
• Essential competency criteria: Fluent in both written and spoken French language – willingness and able to travel. Plus, knowledge of SOS CVI and its statutes
• Positive, energetic self-starter with high level of personal drive and resilience.
• Ability to support relationships and communication between General secretariat (GSC), Promoting & Supporting Associations (PSA’s) and Member Associations (MA’s)
• Ability to strengthen and maintain strong affiliation of Member Associations to the federation by communicating developments across the federation and by being a strong and reliable partner
• Ability to guide and support the establishment of annual plans for member Associations, based on current and future requirements in the respective local environment
• Ability to monitor implementation of policies, guidelines, Standards and tools in the Member Associations
• Ability to facilitate planning and budgeting in member associations
• Ability to supervise National Directors and provide a National management team with direct management support (where applicable).

Qualifications
• A degree in social sciences or equivalent
• An advanced university degree (Master’s) in Social Sciences shall be an added advantage
• Atleast 10 years experience in an executive national level management position or Senior regional level an international NGO setting.
• Seminars, workshops or professional qualifications in project management, people management, Strategic management, Financial management and governance development.
