GLOBAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (PAYMENTS) JOB
Our client, a digital payments business who are building an ecosystem of consumers, merchants and banks in which they facilitate payments and build value through the value-added services they layer on top.
Role Description – Business Development Manager (Payments)
They are now looking to hire an experienced business development manager to drive growth of digital payment business by the direct acquisition of strategic merchants and through the indirect acquisition of merchants through the following channels: acquiring banks and merchant aggregators.

The role brief includes:
a) Defining and driving customer acquisition tactics; and
b) Driving revenue growth from digital payments. You will also work with the product manager for the Payments Gateway to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with customers and prospects.
As Business Development Manager (Payments), you will be responsible for:
Planning
• Creating and executing a plan designed to deliver on company targets for the payments business across all markets where they are present, detailing how targets will be achieved, our approach to specific vertical markets, and the capabilities required to deliver upon these targets
• Ensure all pipeline and sales activity is accurately documented and kept up-to-date via our CRM and reporting tools

Sales
• Drive the country teams selling to merchant clients – taking accountability for lead generation for strategic merchants, pipeline management and revenue generation against target
• Driving the team in the use of reporting tools, ensuring SLAs and targets are achieved
Channel Development
• Work with the teams focused on bank customers to identify potential acquiring bank partners, building and maintaining the channel partner pipeline and driving engagement of these
• Identify strategic merchant and merchant aggregator partners. Manage high-level channel negotiations to ensure a fair and favourable relationships.
Channel Management
• Manage existing channel partners to ensure the relationships are as productive and fruitful as they could be, driving more value from these relationships as required
• Build our capability to efficiently acquire and on-board new SME merchant business customers via digital channels
Business Development & Marketing
• Work with our Marketing teams to ensure we have an authentic voice in the payments market and that our mission to connect everyone to everything in the African market is fully communicated to this market
• Work with Marketing on the development of our brand proposition and our approach to the market
• Contribute to the production of high quality collateral and strong branding of our products in conjunction with Marketing
•Other duties as assigned from time to time
You must be passionate about building and evangelising our payments solution.
You must possess a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand customer problems and business opportunities, and find innovative solutions for the broader market.
You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with product management counterparts to define product release requirements, and will assist with the timely deliver of product positioning, sales and marketing collateral.
You will work with colleagues to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customers. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for the payments offering, working with the wider sales team and key customers.
You will implement the organisation’s business development and sales strategy for the digital payments business opportunity.

• Strong planning skills, ensuring that clear, concise and timely reports on sales activities and targets are delivered to the senior management at both a sector and opportunity level
• Experience of delivering sales in a senior role, preferably in a the digital payments industry
• Dedication to measuring the success of our activities based on the effectiveness of our engagement with our prospective and existing clients, reviewing plans accordingly
Sales Expertise
•Proven ability to hunt for new business, with experience of the full sales life cycle
Leadership
•Experience in driving a team of salespeople, resulting in high quality deliverables and achievement of objectives as per plans

Quality
• An appreciation for and insistence on high quality deliverables and collateral
Communications
• Ability to pitch to existing and potential clients and partners, and to attend and present at relevant events

Reporting to the Chief Business Development Officer, you will support group payments business development objectives. You´ll work mostly with:

• Head of Product Management – To inform and drive development of products that respond to market demand and fulfil the company’s commercial agenda
• Country Banking/Merchant teams – To coordinate sales and partnership efforts
• CCO – In aligning how your sales efforts will support overall group revenue targets
• Brand Management/marketing communications – To develop marketing plans and collateral
• Key Global Clients – clients with high importance, sell our payments solution in coordination with the CBDO
• Key Partners – any other partner that can improve our commercial proposition while reducing overall time to market.
