With a strong foot print in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and South Sudan. Currently the Bank is seeking additional talent to serve in the role outlined below within its Kenyan subsidiary:
Role Description: Reporting to the General Manager, Human Resources, the successful candidate will be expected to provide employee relations advice and counsel to all levels of employees and managers with an emphasis on analysis and resolution of ER issues.
Using a working knowledge of applicable employment laws and HR best practices, the Manager will provide operational support, guidance and recommended solutions to Human Resource Business Partners, Business Leaders and Employees on, among other things, policy interpretation, disability management, job terminations, conflict resolution and disciplinary action.
The role is the centre of expertise in matters relating to employment legislation and driving industrial harmony in the Bank and its Subsidiaries.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Discipline & Grievance Handling (Weight – 65)
Liaise with Line Managers to ensure consistency of disciplinary procedures in the Bank.
Study reported cases of disciplinary action and forward recommendations to the Head HRD.
Communicate disciplinary decisions to Line Managers and ensure proper implementation of actions.
Investigate and respond to all queries raised by the Line Managers on staff discipline matters.
Conduct investigations of harassment, discrimination, bullying and other workplace complaints.
Co-ordinate in liaison with Bank Advocates, all litigation cases for ex-staff.
Train Line Managers on the Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures.
2. Employee and Labour Relations (Weight – 15)
Provide expert advice to Line Managers & Human Resources Business Partners on Legal implications of disciplinary actions as they relate to the Country’s Labour Laws.
Act as a centre of expertise for the organization on all matters pertaining to Employee Relations.
Monitor on a regular basis changes in Labour Laws and keep Line Managers informed.
Carry out trend analysis and make recommendations on how to address and improve employee relations matters and propose supportive actions and programs.
3. HR Compliance (Weight – 15)
Review and continuously update the HR policies and procedures to ensure alignment with the Employment Laws and Regulations.
Align the HR Manuals for the various Subsidiaries with the respective Country’s Labour Laws and Regulations.
Review all employment contracts, HR vendor contracts and letters to ensure that they Safeguard the interests of the Employee and the Bank.
Champion Compliance and Risk matters within the Department.
Interpret the policies and procedures and assess compliance by all employees within the business units.
4. Staff Welfare Activities (Weight – 5)
Co-ordinate all matters relating to Occupational Health and Safety at the workplace.
Provide effective counseling to staff.
Facilitate Bank driven welfare campaigns.
Additional Responsibilities: On request, participate in Group wide HR initiatives and provide expert advice to Subsidiaries on legal matters.

Knowledge, Expertise and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) OR B Com (HR) OR Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences
Postgraduate Diploma in Law – Kenya School of Law
Masters of Business Administration in Human Resources Management OR
Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources Management
Working experience
3 years’ experience practicing Law with a bias towards Labour Relations
3 years working experience in a busy/ commercial HR environment
Have a current Practicing Certificate
Professional membership
Member of a recognized HR professional body
Member of Law Society of Kenya
