About the role
Our Managers perform a key role in Adam Smith International’s consulting model and play a central part in managing project technical and financial performance. Our Managers will also be expected to deliver advisory and business development efforts through engaging with our Government clients on technical issues, and preparing technical and financial proposals and expressions of interest.
All our team members play a key part in developing new business for the company. You should be confident and capable in leading business development activities and converting these into contracts. You potentially bring established relationships with donor organisations and freelance associates.
The role is going to be based in Kenya with long-term periods living in Somaliland and South Sudan. Main responsibilities include:
Managing consultant inputs and equipment/infrastructure
Provide financial oversight of interventions including maintenance of a resource burn-rate, an accurate financial forecast and provision of other management reports;
Support project management in the planning, budgeting, resourcing of interventions, recruitment, duty of care, and contracting;
Full financial management and administration, in compliance with Adam Smith International / donor systems and standards;
Liaise with the programme client;
Quality assuring technical work with consultants, beneficiaries and donor;
Ensure that project processes and procedures are fit-for-purpose and are effectively implemented;
Oversight of final reporting to beneficiaries and donor, with a strong focus on progress against log frame milestones and targets;
Support proposal writing;
Identifying, tracking and securing new project opportunities;
Scrutinise intervention strategies and plans as part of the intervention approval process, to ensure that all programme activities will deliver results and value for money.
About you
As a Manager you should have the ability to build effective relationships with clients from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds, and to work effectively in politically sensitive and challenging environments. You should relish working in a team, should be innovative, energetic, positive, and genuinely committed to achieving lasting change in their work. Adam Smith International seeks the following skills and experience:
A post-graduate degree from a top-tier university;
Significant experience in development on an international donor project, either as project manager or consultant;
Ability to demonstrate experience of using initiative and being client-orientated;
Evidence of interest in revenue reform is desirable;
Willing to be based in Kenya with long-term periods living in Somaliland and South Sudan;
Respect of and ability to adapt to the cultural norms of the location within which you are working;
Excellent communication, inter-personal, and team-working skills;
Eligibility to work in UK.
