The Managing Director reports to the chairman and the board of directors.
A focus of the jobholder will be to strengthen the breadth, profitability and work of the interiors practice, supporting interior design leads through the provision of sound management structure/practice.
The jobholder will also act as the lead and mentor to all staff and be supported by a management team in areas of expertise.
The jobholder shall have specific responsibility over the revenue generation, business development, stakeholder relations and P&L of the business through personally discovering, engaging and closing deals and mentoring the business development and sales teams on the same.
Responsibilities of the job
Meeting revenue targets
Leading and mentoring business development managers and sales staff in meeting their personal targets and thus the overall company targets
Personally acquiring project contracts through property developers, architects and other industry stakeholders
Formulating and successfully implementing company policy;
Directing strategy towards the profitable growth and operation of the company;
Developing strategic operating plans that reflect the longer-term objectives and priorities established by the board;
Developing with the finance manager organisation wide budgets and managing cash flows;
Closely monitoring the operating and financial results against plans and budgets;
Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the chairman of the board;
Putting in place adequate operational planning and financial control systems;
Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by the management and other employees;
Maintains involvement and ensures quality control in all phases of interior architectural projects and their management and adherence to project timelines;
Taking remedial action where necessary and informing the board of significant changes;
Maintaining the operational performance of the company;
Monitoring the actions of the functional board directors;
Assuming full accountability to the board for all company operations;
Representing the company to major customers and professional associations;

Requirements of the job
The job holder will have a Bachelors’ degree in a related field with not less than 10 years relevant experience.
Previous overall responsibility for revenue targets, P&L and operations within a medium sized company.
A track record for business development abilities.
An appreciation of and experience in construction field will be an added advantage.
The jobholder will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; coupled with good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
They will also be required to possess excellent organisational skills with a strong attention to detail. Experience ERP’s and an avid user of computer and smartphone app technology.
They should also have proficiency with sustainable design/LEED as well as broad project experience.
