Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator – Green Belt Movement

Background: The Green Belt Movement is implementing a project strengthening women’s potential in natural resource management, climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies across three East African priority watersheds.

The project is providing training to Trainer of Trainers (TOT’s) who are mostly women.

The main components of the training are environmental stewardship, clean energy entrepreneurship, and leadership, with the goal of improving women’s participation and influence for environmental governance, building climate resilience, helping establish cultures of peace, and improving community energy access.
New Course is contributing to these projects by designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation activities to measure the impact of these projects.

New Course is seeking someone to coordinate monitoring and evaluation efforts for the project including the collection and analysis of baseline data and monitoring of project impact.

The position will require travel to communities across Kenya to coordinate and implement household surveys, focus group discussions and key informant interviews related to natural resource management, livelihoods and energy use.

The successful applicant will manage and coordinate teams of local enumerators, supervise the data collection and will also be required to analyze the information collected and generate short concise reports on the relevant findings.

Good coordination and communication with Green Belt Movement staff conducting community trainings will be essential to the success of monitoring and evaluation efforts, along with excellent analytical and report writing skills.

Technical Qualifications and Skills:
Masters in Community Development, Environmental Management, climate change or related field. First degree with experience will be considered.
An in depth knowledge and experience in the fields of natural resource management, community livelihoods, clean energy and entrepreneurship.
At least two years experience with community research, participatory techniques (PRA, RRA)
At least two years experience in community engagement and research, administering and analyzing surveys
At least two years experience in project management
Experience with project monitoring and evaluation
Excellent analytical, report writing and communication skills
Knowledge and experience in statistical analysis and software
Knowledge and proficiency in local languages

Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and implement community livelihood and natural resource management baseline information collection and follow up surveys. Specific duties include:
Travel to communities across Kenya to conduct baseline surveys and focus group discussions
Coordinate with partners to determine logistics of baseline surveys and focus groups
Lead focus group discussions and record results
Train community enumerators to administrate surveys
Supervise and manage enumerators and assure data quality, accuracy and credibility
Manage, disburse and be accountable for funds for M&E activities
Collection of surveys and input into excel and Microsoft access databases
Analyze survey results and generate project progress reports
Carry out statistical analysis of data collected
Generate baseline reports for relevant regions
Generate summary baseline reports
Undertake monitoring activities to measure impact of trainings
Ongoing (weekly) communication and coordination with partners The Green Belt Movement.
Weekly progress reports to the Chief Program Officer, New Course.
Other activities related to monitoring and evaluation that may arise during the course of the contract and agreed upon between New Course and the contractor.
