Monitoring Specialist – Msingi East Africa

ROLE BRIEF
Seeking a high-performing Monitoring Specialist to play a key role in the flagship industry programme of Msingi, an innovative industry development organisation pushing the boundaries of economic development in East Africa
Purpose of the Monitoring Specialist Role
Msingi’s first focus industry is Commercial Aquaculture. This role will work within the Aquaculture team responsible for operation of the monitoring system at a programme level. In consultation with the Industry Director, the role holder will lead Msingi’s monitoring and facilitating evaluation activities and will guide and support other team members in implementing an integrated monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment system.

Key Responsibilities
The Monitoring Specialist will assist the team by:
Guiding and assisting the team in developing result chains and monitoring plans;
Organising and facilitating reflection meetings and review sessions on a regular basis. Ensure proper minutes are captured and filed;
Ensuring relevant data and lessons are captured and kept accessible for learning and reporting;
Leading the design and implementation of specific studies that capture impact and other changes. This will involve but not be limited to developing interview questionnaires, carrying out sampling, enumerator training among other activities;
Undertaking regular visits to the field to support implementation of monitoring and evaluation by the aquaculture team;
Identifying and participating in additional networks with sister organisations that may yield lessons that can benefit Msingi’s project implementation; and
Any other duties relevant for the development of the industry as requested from time to time.
Experience and personal qualities required

Msingi is looking for a star-performer that has:
A minimum of an undergraduate degree in economics, social sciences or related fields from a reputable university;
Between two (2) to four (4) years’ work experience, with at least one (1) year in monitoring and evaluation;
Experience in conducting research in rural areas;
Proven experience in implementing monitoring systems;
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively network between the different stakeholders and have flexibility to work with people with different values and ability to appreciate cultural differences;
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
A proactive, creative and entrepreneurial attitude;
Ability to analyse data and other sources of information, probe for further information, make rational judgements from the available information and analysis and understand how one issue may be part of a larger system;
Good communication and relationship building skills;
Ability to produce high quality written documents;
Ability to learn quickly and possess an inquisitive mindset;
Firm ethical standards, demonstrating integrity and is values-driven;
A passion for the dynamics affecting East African economic development.
Terms and remuneration
The contract for this work will be permanent and full-time. The job will be based in Nairobi with up to 50% regional travel. The salary will be competitive and is negotiable dependent on experience.
