Officer Health And Nutrition – Nairobi – Concern Worldwide

Job Summary:
The incumbent will provide technical guidance and mentorship to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and local partners to Nairobi’s Sub Counties in the implementation of Health and Nutrition Services within the World Health Organization’s defined building blocks for Health System Strengthening

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Project Management
• Assisting in the provision of technical support and leadership to MOH and local partners in the implementation of integrated maternal child health and nutrition services.
• Providing technical support and front line management to MoH at the Sub Counties and Health Facilities in the implementation of High Impact Nutrition Interventions (HINI) (Inpatient and outpatient therapeutic treatment of acute malnutrition, supplementary feeding, infant and young Children Feeding, micronutrient supplementation, deworming community mobilisation and hygiene promotion).
• Providing technical support to MoH and partners on the roll out and management of IMAM Surge in the sub counties.
• Capacity building of MoH staff at Sub Counties and health facility levels in all aspects of delivery of HINI and health services
• Liaising closely with the SCHMT and Health Facility Management Teams to promote sustained ownership and integration of HINI services into existing health systems
• Playing an active role in the roll out of community health services to enhance MNCH and nutrition services at the household/community through Community Units and Community Conversations platforms
• Liaising with the Community Empowerment Team and CHAs for promotion of health and nutrition messaging through community conversations
• Assist in liaising with local and county level structures (SCHMT and Health Facility Management Teams) to enhance coordination and collaboration in project implementation and sustainability.
• Working closely with MOH in developing and implementing integrated work plans at the sub counties level
• Participating in the development of annual work plans and project proposals
• Contributing to and maintaining strong links with other projects to reinforce an integrated Concern programming approach
• Assisting in the day-to-day management including monitoring of the urban health and nutrition projects
• Reporting and documentation of the programme process including generating lessons learnt and case studies
Monitoring and Evaluation:
• Monitoring of activities through field support visits and joint support supervision
• Assisting in managing results framework within Concern and partners
• Participating, planning and coordinating surveys, surveillance and assessments
Representation:
• Representing Concern in Sub County health and nutrition meetings
• Participating in Health Facility In-charges meetings
• Maintaining good working relationships and co-ordination with national and international partners
Responding to Emergencies:
• Participate and contribute as necessary towards Concern’s Emergency response as and when necessary
• Comply with Concern’s health, safety and security guidelines during emergencies
Programme Participant Protection Policy
• To adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct.

Job Specification:
• A degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
• At least three (3) years’ experience in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition programming in both a development and emergency context
• Knowledge and experience in MoH systems at County level and working with and through local partners
• Knowledge and experience in community based health care including an understanding of the community strategy and community level interventions
• Good understanding of cross cutting issues- gender, HIV and AIDS, DRR, etc. and how to integrate them into public health and nutrition programmes.
• Excellent programme planning, monitoring and evaluation, interpersonal/communication and report writing skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams.
• Fluent in both spoken and written English and Kiswahili
• Proficient in the use of computer applications
