Program Associate – Nairobi – International Center for Transitional Justice

The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is an international non-profit organisation specializing in the field of transitional justice. ICTJ assists societies confronting massive human rights abuses to promote accountability, pursue truth, provide reparations, and build trustworthy institutions. ICTJ is seeking applications from competent professionals to fill a full time Program Associate position for its Kenya Office. This position will be based in Nairobi and on a 1-year contract with possibility of extension, depending on performance and availability of funding. The Program Associate will report to the Head of Office ICTJ-Kenya. Contract details will be discussed with short-listed candidates only

Program Associate Responsibilities:
The Program Associate’s responsibilities will be:
• Work with the Head of Office to conceptualize, design and implement programs to provide technical assistance and support to transitional justice processes in Kenya
• Perform research and writing tasks including compiling and organizing comparative information, legal research, preparing country papers and other written work for publication
• Assist in the work plan processes including preparing annual and quarterly operational plans, and monitoring and reporting on implementation and results
• Assist in the development of proposals for donor and development partners’ support
• Coordinate with the Finance and Administrative Manager and Program Assistant in tracking program budgets and expenditure
• Collaborate with the Program Assistant in organizing workshops, conferences and missions
• Conduct periodic travels in support of ICTJ country and thematic programs
• Perform other duties as necessary and as requested

Qualifications:
Education Qualifications:
• Required:
o Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or other relevant field, such as law, political science, international relations, etc
• Desirable:
o Master’s degree
o Undertaken some studies in transitional justice
o Undertaken some studies in gender

Expertise and Experience:
• Required:
o Fluent oral and written English and Swahili
o At least 5 to 7 years demonstrable experience of working in the field of human rights and/or transitional justice
o Knowledge of key developments relating to transitional justice in Kenya
o Proven ability to develop and implement transitional justice research, advocacy, capacity building or similar projects
o Excellent analytical and report writing skills
o Experience with the full cycle of project management, including with substantive issues and the budget
• Solid organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced working environment and with a wide range of partners
o Strong interpersonal and networking skills
o High level of professionalism and attention to detail
o Flexible and committed to teamwork

• Desirable:
o Experience working in an international organization
o Experience working with reparations and vetting
o Demonstrable knowledge of gender issues in transitional justice
o Experience with monitoring and evaluation
