Program Manager – Diakonia Sweden

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Africa Regional Manager, the position is responsible for providing strategic leadership in planning, resource mobilization, formulating and implementing the operations of the Africa Economic Justice programme including financial and human resources management across the Sub Sahara African Region in order to achieve the overall objectives of Diakonia.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee the development and implementation of the program strategy and provide leadership in the delivery of the programme objectives
• Dialogue and co-ordination with donor agencies, international NGOs, and other strategic actors in the social and economic justice sector.
• Oversee the finance and administration of the programme, overall responsible for the program budget
• Follow-up/monitoring and assessment of partners’, review partners’ narrative and financial reporting.
• Ensure that institutional audits have been done according to Diakonia’s and donors conditions.
• Assess partners’ funding applications (strategic plans, annual work plans and budgets).
• Continuous analysis of the program in relation to the contemporary African context and the areas of concern for Diakonia.
• Produce narrative and financial reports and evaluations of the program.
• Regular follow up/monitoring of partners’ work through partner visits.
• Support partner institutional strengthening based on their capacity assessment.
• Responsible for information management system including documentation of programme related information on partners.
• Attend and arrange exchanges of experiences, conferences and meetings.
• Identify and analyse/assess possible new partner organisations.
• Identify potential donors and fundraise.

Education & Competencies
• Master’s degree in development, sociology, economics or other social sciences.
• Training in Finance and Human Resource Management
• A minimum of seven (7) years progressive relevant experience in development work in a developing country is mandatory with three (3) of those in senior management.
• Very good thematic knowledge of economic justice issues including investments, financial flows (e.g. debt, capital flight, aid)
• Experience of gender mainstreaming into programmatic work.
• Experience of work supervision, programme development and budget monitoring.
• Strong skills in monitoring and evaluation
• Good knowledge of Project Cycle Management
• Experience of advocacy, networking and communication work.
• Experience in strategic program fundraising.
• Experience of leading workshops and trainings.
• Good administrative and financial ability and staff management experience.
• Excellent language skills in English.
• Knowledge in French and Swedish is an advantage.
• Flexibility to travel to country programmes
