Project Coordinator – Nairobi – RedR UK

RedR UK and the work we do
Each year millions of people around the world feel the effects of natural disaster and conflict. RedR UK is an international charity that improves the effectiveness of disaster relief, helping save and rebuild the lives of people affected by disaster worldwide. We do this by delivering essential training and support to relief organisations and their staff, and by supplying skilled professionals to humanitarian programmes. Our work helps to ensure that the right people with the right skills are responding to global emergencies, and enables both local and international relief workers to react to the needs of those affected by disaster, efficiently and safely.
In response to recent humanitarian catastrophes, we currently have training and local capacity building programmes in Sudan, Pakistan and South Sudan and have recently secured contracts for two large training programmes in Kenya. It is anticipated that our training programme in the country will expand further in the next year.
In 2011 RedR UK re-established an office in Kenya to provide our services and support to sub-Saharan Africa. RedR UK provides training and capacity building services throughout the region and is looking to expand its reach across sub-Saharan Africa

Background
RedR UK has signed a contract with OXFAM for the delivery of CONTEXT Project in East Africa. CONTEXT (www.contextproject.org) is a DFID funded consortium approach to training and capacity building in the humanitarian sector, with the aim of increasing the professionalism of Aid workers in line with the recommendations of the HERR report.
Compiled by 15 leading humanitarian agencies under the START Network and based on the Core Humanitarian Competencies Framework, Context provides a solid basis for staff development for improved humanitarian response.

Context contains two staff development programmes:
• The Management and Leadership Skills Development Programme (9 months course)
• The Core Skills Development Programme (6 months course)
