1. Project officer – Advocacy
The Project Officer will have the responsibility for delivering a coordinated and integrated advocacy intervention and to reinforce impact on the ground by bringing priorities from the grass-roots into the LWF’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR), through a Rights-Based Approach. The role will ensure that the voice of the rights-holders (communities are amplified particularly those touching on issues affecting refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants in low income areas and Kenyan nationals of ethnic minorities

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include among others:
• Responsible for planning, management, monitoring and reporting on all activities in the project in conformity with the Project Document (PD) and its approved working budget, more particularly:
• Carry out mapping of actors, coalitions and networks for partnership at National level to position LWF and partners as leading actors on fundamental rights in UPR
• Run workshops in-country to inform about UPR, build-capacity, define coalition and agree priority issues
• Empower partners to play role in ensuring implementation at local level
• Support partners to submit incisive, specific alternative reports reflecting thematic priorities
• Support partners in working with government on preparation of state’s report
• Prepare and submit alternative reports reflecting LWF key issues
• Support LWF and partners carry out capacity-building and dissemination of learning to strengthen effectiveness in this work
• Undertake complementary advocacy/lobbying by partners in other arenas
• Produce timely and regular reports to the Program Coordinator on the progress of the work within the Project. In addition the Project Coordinator will ensure that all reporting requirements of LWF/DWS are met in terms of quality and timeliness.
• Responsible for project-related Annual Project Reviews, preparation/ review of Project Plans, compilation of QMR for every quarter, preparation of Annual Monitoring Reports, preparation of Annual Work Plans and budgets as well as be responsible for project monitoring and evaluation.
• Represent the Project in meetings with partners and other key actors including the Government.
• Any other responsibilities assigned or delegated to him/her by the Program Coordinator

Required skills and competencies
• A University degree in Law or social/political science and preferably Masters in relevant discipline.
• At least three (3) years working in advocacy programs in a reputable firm, public body or NGO
• Proven track record of advocating for change on human rights issues and producing policy materials at community and senior political level and on high profile issues
• An understanding of and commitment to rights-based approaches applied in a pragmatic way
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills including the ability to write clearly and concisely
