Scope of the position
In close consultation with and under the supervision of the Country Director, Kenya Programme, the Project Officer has the overall responsibility of managing the project with support from two Project Assistants.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Lead the formulation and implementation of project communications and advocacy strategies, focusing on achievement of the following results
• Implementation of the project publications requirements; provides inputs, content development, coordination of production and dissemination of press releases, publications, articles and sharing of project knowledge and successes.
• Provision of inputs and information for elaboration of project communication strategy
• Support to increase awareness of the project’s aims and goals through dissemination of information and organisation of public events
• In coordination with project staff develop and prepare materials for awareness-raising including briefing materials and press releases.
• Lead the project’s policy and advocacy agenda including appearing on TV, Radio talk shows and giving media interviews in Bungoma in relation to the project objectives
• Organisation of publicity, advocacy, knowledge-sharing events and promotional opportunities.
• Provision of logistics support to project events.
• Maintenance of information database and photo/video library.
• Organisation and implementation of information campaigns around national and international days relevant to the project objectives.
• Liaise with media outlets to ensure that the appropriate information and messages are reaching the public, including preparing press releases.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase and improve public outreach
• Prepare promotional material on the project, including pamphlets, videos, etc.
• Prepare communication reports for the Project Advisory Committee and ACORD.
• Develop and maintain a project information and documentation depository for dissemination.
• Perform other duties as required.
2. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:
• Support to project assistants in identification, documenting and drafting of best practices and lessons learned.
• Lead the process of knowledge for disseminating at all levels and produce documents that capture the right stakeholders and production of knowledge-based products.
• Organise internal and external networks or communities of practice covering prominent experts in government, non-government, think tanks, universities, peer organisations to interact with the project beneficiaries as provided in the project document.
• Develop county-based intelligence on county political situation, opportunities, interests and prospects for women candidates.
• Prepare terms of reference of consultants, participate in their procurement and manage them to deliver on their ToR
• Undertake and facilitate necessary engagements with the county government leadership, political party and women groups leadership in Bungoma to leverage their support for the project
• Provide support to organisation of workshops, seminars, training and delivery of outputs (products) as envisaged in the project document.
• Preparation of project work plans and budgets and monitoring of the same to ensure delivery on schedule
• Coordinates with project assistants to prepare, update and submit narrative and financial project reports to ACORD and the EC
• Ensuring prudent management of project assets and resources
