Description
International Business and Technical Consultants Incorporated (IBTCI) is recruiting a Qualitative Researcher for a baseline survey team to help execute a Task Order issued by the USAID/East Africa /Somalia Office. As the holder of the Somalia Program Support Services (SPSS) contract, IBTCI will be conducting a baseline survey to support a program engaged in formal and informal education activities in Somalia. The purpose of the baseline study is to establish pre-intervention (baseline) measurements that can be tracked during the upcoming phase of the program activity, and used to compare end-line measurements via a performance evaluation.
This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travel to Somalia, and is full-time, beginning in April 2015 to approximately July 31.
The assignment includes the following tasks:
Help organize focus groups and key informant interviews; including organization of training sessions for interviewers according to SPSS requirements
Help develop quality control procedures, manuals and codebooks
Assure that protocols and supporting processes include informed consent, a voluntary participation statement, assure respondent confidentiality, and include secure data exchange/storage procedures
Help conduct and document pre-tests
Develop survey related documentation, including training materials in English and Somali
Provide qualitative data resulting from pre-pilot and pilot-testing with corresponding metadata documentation
Provide oversight of qualitative data collection, including review by regional supervisors
Follow international quality control standards and quality assurance procedures
Adhere to standard USAID requirements for qualitative data
The Qualitative Researcher should meet minimum qualification requirements:
Experience in designing guides to collect qualitative data (attitudes/behaviors/perceptions) among ministry representatives, students, parents, clan elders and religious leaders;
Experience in evaluating international education projects
Experience in facilitation/moderation of focus group discussions and conducting face-to-face interviews with key informants, processing and analyzing of qualitative data;
Professional knowledge of qualitative data processing software (Atlas) and MS Office applications;
Excellent communication (written and verbal) in Somali and English.
