SDG Accountability Consultant – Options Consultancy Services

Short introduction
The Girl Generation has developed a draft SDG accountability framework to guide our members in their national obligation to hold their governments accountable to ending FGM. We are looking for a subject matter expert to review and draft the SDG framework in line with latest developments, review opportunities for SDG accountability in our focal countries, and produce country-specific materials and reporting mechanisms to inform our members and inspire action.

Summary purpose and objective of role
The SDGs are a universal set of goals, targets, and indicators that UN member states will be expected to use to frame their policies and agendas over the next 15 years. Of particular interest to ending FGM is Goal 5 to “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”, and target 5.3 to “Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilations”. Under this target, ending FGM has been included as a global indicator. The SDG Accountability Consultant will be responsible for developing the following:

Finalised SDG accountability framework for ending FGM
A country matrix showing opportunities for SDG accountability in our ten countries.
Simple ‘how to guides’ for selected countries
A tracking/reporting tool for assessing members’ engagement/results in this are

Person specification
The candidate will hold a professional qualification or degree in a relevant subject (public health, development studies, accountability, policy and governance etc.)
Demonstrable expert knowledge around SDGs, country accountability plans and international accountability frameworks
Ability to synthesise and communicate findings from different evidence sources into accessible written and visual formats
Highly organised
Excellent writing skills
A dynamic, flexible and proactive approach to prioritising tasks and achieving objectives
An ability to work independently
Highly communicative, empathetic and sensitive
Proficiency in English (French and/or Arabic also desirable)

We also support grassroots organizations through the End FGM Small Grants Programme which provides flexible funding in order to support their work in the area of communications, advocacy and campaigning to end FGM.
