Summary
• Senior level position suitable for a proven manager in the consulting, government or NGO sector with experience delivering and leading technical consultancy and project management on conflict-related international development assignments.
• Combining technical consultancy, project management, team leadership and business development responsibilities across Aktis’ portfolio of projects in the East Africa Region, with an initial focus on projects in Somalia and South Sudan.
• Working from a primary location in Nairobi, Kenya with secondary regional work locations as required; and regular travel to our UK headquarters and other regional offices.

The Role
We are looking to appoint a full time Senior Manager – East Africa Region (EAFR). Based in Nairobi, and with an initial Somalia focus, the successful candidate will lead and deliver work in three primary areas:
1. Leadership of Aktis’ portfolio of projects in the EAFR region, including client liaison, financial management, procurement management, associate and field team coordination, research, monitoring and evaluation management, performance management, recruitment oversight and quality assurance.
2. Technical consultancy inputs into a range of challenging projects, including provision of technical assistance to government counterparts, project design and leadership, quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation.
3. Business Development to expand Aktis’ portfolio of high quality projects in East Africa, including client engagement, marketing, proposal preparation and development, recruitment and budget planning and development.

The successful applicant will have the capability to lead and work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary, internationally-dispersed team, proactively leading and managing client relations, projects and BD. The Senior Manager EAFR will be responsible for the direct line management of regional practice staff, both UK-based and local national. He or she will take on responsibility for the performance of the business in the East Africa region, managing the team to deliver clear and measurable outcomes for clients and for the development of the company.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the successful applicant will have proven experience applying the methods, tools and approaches required to successfully manage international development project teams and projects, including in conflict-affected environments. They will have strong presentation skills and interpersonal skills, spoken and written fluency in English, a high level of self-motivation, and the experience needed to mentor and motivate the team to deliver results.

Position location and travel
Working from Nairobi and with regular routine travel to locations throughout the EAFR region, potentially including conflict-affected locations, to HQ in London, and to other regional offices in the Middle East and Asia.
