Set Builder and Workshop Supervisor in the Department of Drama – Rhodes University – Eastern Province, KE

Purpose
The primary purpose of the job is to co-ordinate and supervise the activities in the workshop so as to build and construct sets for all Departmental productions, as well as acting as the Resident Safety Officer for the Rhodes Theatre Complex.

Requirements
Grade 12 plus a practical trade with approximately 3 years relevant experience where such experience includes:
Previous technical experience (including experience in a theatre workshop working on the technical side)
At least 1 years supervision experience OR be in possession of the RU Supervision Certificate
Previous experience in working with Word, Excel, Email and the Internet
A working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act
Previous experience in safety will be an advantage
Working knowledge of computer added drawing (CAD) will be an advantage

In terms of Immigration Legislation (Act No. 13 of 2002 & Regulations), international staff members (non-SA citizens) have to comply with the provisions of the Act. This therefore means that the period of employment to non-SA citizens will be guided by the validity period of the work permit.
In line with legislation governing employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure that they are in possession of a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University, failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.

Short-listing meeting is scheduled for the 16 July 2019. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted thereafter for an assessment and/or interview.
An employment check will be conducted on successful candidates.

Remuneration (Grade 10)
Basic Salary Pension/Provident Fund: R250 260 per annum

Approximate cost to company: R340 543 per annum
