Background: Tusome is a national level activity with goal of improving the Class 1 and 2 quality of instruction and student outcomes in Kiswahili and English.
Tusome provides pupils with literacy books and teachers with the training, ongoing support, and lesson plans that enable them to improve their daily instructional practice.
The Tusome activity, funded by USAID, also uses ICT interventions including tablets as tools for TAC Tutors and coaches.
This activity has allowed Tusome to design materials that have been implemented on tablets to help instructional supervisors, called TAC tutors and coaches, support learning gains efficiently and at scale.
The TUSOME Project anticipate to engage a Special Needs Education Coordinator (SNE Coordinator) on consultancy terms of engagement.
The following is a scope of work for the consultant:
The SNE Coordinator is responsible for overseeing, supervising and guiding SNE officers on their day to day Tusome activities within their area of jurisdiction.
She/he will report to the Senior Education Specialist on the progress of Tusome SNE activities and specifically will provide support and training to the MoEST Education Officials, TSC Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), head teachers and teachers on Tusome SNE implementation.
She/he will also provide input into the development and revision of teaching and learning materials including teacher’s guides, pupil’s books and class readers for pupils with special needs.
Qualifications and Experience:
At least a Master degree in education or social sciences, with specialization in Special Needs Education, with concentration in HI and/or VI.
Proven experience in designing and implementing full cycle of a SNE project.
A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in working with disabilities in the education sector.
Proven knowledge on disability rights and inclusion practices.
Prior experience and familiarity with donor project management policies, procedure and reporting requirements, particularly USAID.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills demonstrated by ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients and consultants.
Demonstrated ability to set and deliver on priorities.
Level of Effort: 60 working days
Field work as necessary
