Systems Administrator – Insurance Brokerage Industry

Under the general guidance and supervision of the Group CTO, the Systems Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, administering, deploying and supporting Linux and Windows Hosting environments as well as SQL Server Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and the multiple databases it hosts.

S/he will work closely with the Network Administrator to ensure that the LAN/WAN is appropriately configured to allow optimal and secure operations of the enterprise Kava systems.

In addition, s/he will also work in collaboration with Systems Developers to ensure that the systems and databases developed are secure, and optimally tuned for scalability, reliability, availability, effectiveness and efficiency.

They would be expected to participate and contribute in the Kava systems development process, and in providing technical support to users to optimize the use of database tools for data entry, processing and reporting.

The Systems Administrator will also responsible for specifying database infrastructure and service requirements, and managing the engagement with external consultants and vendors providing a range of outsourced Systems and database technical support services.

Knowledge and skills in systems development; network and software troubleshooting is a tremendous asset in fulfilling the functions of this position.

Principal Accountabilities
System Administration
Configuring and administering Windows and Linux Hosting environments for effective execution of various enterprise applications and services.
Installing, configuring, managing and supporting the SQL Server Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and the multiple databases and corresponding applications it hosts and supports.
Performing administration of database servers in an enterprises environment, including production, development, testing, and training servers to support: backup and recovery procedures; replication; index maintenance; monitoring system performance and optimizing/tuning stored procedures and indexes; creating ad-hoc SQL queries; integrating data files and databases from disparate systems; data mining and cleansing of legacy databases; troubleshooting and isolating and resolving performance problems, etc.
Providing comprehensive documentation for various systems architectures, business systems and RDBMS environment and database/data warehouse structures.
Keeping abreast of changing technology trends to enable continuous process improvements, cost-effective and standards-based implementations.
Performing other related duties as may be required by the functions of this position. Monitoring and providing periodic reporting on the overall state and performance of the hosted databases, and comprehensively documenting the Kava systems environment.
Providing support to the Systems Development and Support Teams, as appropriate, to ensure that timely and adequate resources are allocated to support these teams and the functions that they have to deliver; both developmental and support (maintenance, troubleshooting, etc.).
Developing and specifying database requirements and subsequently planning and project managing the engagement and Service Level Agreements with external consultants and vendors providing a range of outsourced ICT services.

Communication
Education, Experience and Knowledge
Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or other relevant field.
Linux and/or Windows system administration certification(s); are preferred.
Major Requirement: Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience as a systems administrator in a Linux/Windows environment
At least 2 years Relational Database Management System administration and Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing in an environment with multiple production databases experience, especially in SQL, and/or Database certification (MCDBA, etc.) will be an advantage.
Systems administration and/or development experience will also be an added advantage.
Working knowledge of database design, optimization, and troubleshooting, as well as Microsoft SQL RDBMS.
Prior hands-on professional experience must include an overall knowledge of database design, optimization, and troubleshooting.
