Position Summary: Reporting to the Regional Programme Coordinator, the Project Nurse will be responsible for providing technical leadership for provision of Key population services as per the national guidelines within the GF programme mobile wellness Centre (MWC).
The services will include but not limited to coordination of and/or provision of HTC, STI screening and treatment; Family Planning and sexual and reproductive health services.
S/he will also ensure appropriate referrals are done for the members of the Key Populations.
S/He will provide capacity building for the project partners on key population HIV programming, technical reporting and quality assurance for effective service provision in the mobile wellness centre.
S/He will ensure that the Mobile wellness centre activities are harmonized into the national guidelines for service provision for key population, national tools are used for service provision and safeguard accountability at all levels of the project and the organization.
This position works closely with the Site coordinators of the sub recipients implementing key population activities and other Key population implementing organizations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Ensure effective operation of the mobile clinic in the standards required. Maintain a clean and well-arranged work station and create effective awareness on hygiene and health services.
Plan health care interventions daily and as necessary, and implement.
Assess patients and clients and establish health care needs, diagnose simple common health conditions, prescribe, and administer treatment as necessary.
Provide family planning services, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and cervical cancer screening to beneficiaries at the Centre and during outreaches including education, counselling and services.
Provide MARPs with risk assessment and risk reduction counselling and facilitate health education sessions for MARPs at the Centre and during outreaches.
Coordinate with field team to provide HTC outreach services at the mobile centre and outreaches as per national HTC guidelines and quality assurance using national HTC reporting tools.
Provide post counselling follow-up to positive clients to ensure they are enrolled in care and provide adherence counselling to the clients on treatment
Make appropriate referrals for on-going support and actively track referrals for HIV care, treatment and support services including: CCC, PMTCT, TB treatment, Home-based care.
Maintain good quality clinic data and adequate commodities consumption records, calculate consumption and make requisitions on time to avoid stock-outs.
Ensure maintenance of adequate stocks of drugs and medical commodities as well as safe custody of the drugs and equipment in the clinic and liaise with relevant authorities to ensure continues supply of test kits to the facility.
Collect client data and store appropriately to ensure confidentiality is maintained and be directly responsible for ensuring that all the required national reporting tools are correctly filled and submitted on time to the DHRIOs (District Health Records and Information Officers).
Document lessons learnt and challenges to inform program decisions.
Submit timely reports to the Centre co-ordinator; ensure timely filing, filling and reporting to the Wellness Centre coordinator, data assistants and/or data officer using the appropriate national and internal reporting tools. Share the same reports with the regional programme coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
Hold a Diploma or a Degree in Registered Nursing/ midwife from a recognized nursing training institution and in possession of a registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
At least three (3) years’ experience working in a busy Key population and/or HIV and AIDS comprehensive Care Centre (CCC) setting.
Trained HTC counsellor by NASCOP or other institution recognized in HTC training and registered with NASCOP as HTC counsellor
Minimum of 2 years HTC counselling services , experience in HBCT and adherence an advantage
Experience working with key population is desired.
Key Competencies
Able to work in a community setting and relate well with key populations by providing MARPs friendly services.
Experience in providing family planning services, STI screening and treatment, and cervical cancer screening and other SRH related services at outreach sites is desired.
Have a clear understanding of HIV and related infections epidemiology among MARPs.
Good oral and written communication skills (English and Swahili).
Computer literacy in the use of MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Ability to work and deliver results with minimum supervision.
