JCCP is a non-governmental organization established in 1999 in Japan, with its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan and field offices in Nairobi, Kenya and in Juba, South Sudan. JCCP’s mission is to contribute to global peace and security by building human capacity for conflict prevention and peace-building, specializing in capacity building of NGOs and civil society, community security, experts’ training in peacekeeping operations, peace-building for civilians, police and military, education and livelihood support.
In this month of March 2015, JCCP’s Office in Nairobi, Kenya launched a Gender Responsive Community Safety project in one of the informal settlementsin Nairobi and seeks to recruit a Project Advisor who will be the gender and conflict resolution technical focal person. The successful candidate will be located in Nairobi and will be expected to start as soon as possible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of theDeputy Representative, the main duties and responsibilities of the Technical Advisor will be as follows
1.Project Management
Provide leadership, direction, and coordination to integrate gender and conflict sensitivity, with respect to the improvement of security for the target population;
Lead in assessment of community capacity in gender knowledge and analysis, and implement trainings to address identified capacity gaps;
Spearhead the process of women safety audit (WSA), develop tools to enhance the audit to better understand the context and dynamics at play related to gender and security in the project area
Lead the development of capacity of the community to conduct WSA;
Lead in capacity development of the community to address conflict and contribute to developing gender sensitive monitoring indicators for early warning early response ( EWER) mechanism;
Lead in EWER data collection, analysis and presentation to stakeholders; and
Supervision of field operations for EWER and WSA activities
2.Monitoring and Evaluation
· Identify, support and develop mechanisms for effective project monitoring and evaluation efforts and systems for information sharing internally and externally;
Assist in effectively monitoring all aspects of project progress and implementation;
Identify, report on and manage risks so that maximum benefit to stakeholders is achieved;
Regularly review project progress and the implementation structure to ensure the most efficient and most cost effective model to deliver and lessons are learnt for the future; and
Ensure effective coordination with all the stakeholders for the successful execution of the projects, including identification of milestones and other performance indicators to ensure success
3.Knowledge Management
Institutionalize and disseminate knowledge within JCCP through contents/data management; and
Ensure synthesis of lessons learned and best practices in project management.
Requirements
A minimum of a bachelors degree in gender studies, with at least five years experience in project work in conflict resolution or related field
Background/qualifications in gender transformative programming & gender analysis
Experience in field work and ability to work with community, especially in the informal settlement and ability to relate with people in this environment including communication
Experience of project management is a plus
· Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams and effectively communicate new or sensitive topics
· Knowledge and experience with participatory planning methodologies that promote learning and social change
· Excellent interpersonal and team work skills
Fluency in English and Swahili;
Good command of computer applications, Microsoft Office Word, Excel in particular; Microsoft outlook & Microsoft PowerPoint
Self motivated and ability to beat deadlines
A team player to build and maintain relationships with supervisors, colleagues and partners
Seeks input and feedback from others
Ability to handle challenges with persistence and calmness
