The main goal of Kisumu Local Interaction Platform (KLIP), supported by MISTRA URBAN FUTURES (M-UF), is co-creation / generation, practical application and dissemination of knowledge for the purposes of sustainable urban development.
To achieve this, KLIP brings together the academia, private sector, industry and public sector in knowledge production, management, application and uptake.
The current key stakeholders include City of Kisumu, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Maseno University, the Private Sector and Civil Society.
KLIP has received support from the African Centre for Cities to study urban food security and related issues.
The project is expected to provide a framework for sustainable urban food security.
It is on the basis of the foregoing that KLIP wishes to recruit a dependable, dynamic, result oriented, team player and energetic person for the position of the Food Security Specialist.
Qualification and Skills
Food security / economist / agronomist / sociologist / geographer background with academic qualifications of at least MSc/MA level and at least 5 years professional experience
General professional experience
Must be excellent in drafting and have oral presentation skills.
Extensive work experience in programme implementation. His/her contribution will be essential in programme design and modalities of implementation.
Should have a strong expertise in formulation, identification, design, evaluation and implementation of programmes; experience in working with urban communities and other international donor/implementing agencies is a plus.
Shall be familiar with the national and international policies related to food security and the wider food system.
Should be familiar with the latest developments in the field of food security (availability, access, quality) including national policies and development programmes. Familiarity and knowledge of nutrition and the use of social transfers in combating under-nutrition will be a further asset; social protection, livelihoods, poverty and vulnerability.
Research experience in matters pertaining to the food economy, particularly the food systems used by poorer communities, would be an advantage.
Experience in managing surveys and enumerator teams would be an advantage.
