Chemonics International Inc., a leading international consulting firm based in Washington, DC, has been contracted by USAID to manage FEWS NET technical and field activities. Chemonics seeks applications from qualified and experienced professionals from within Kenya or in possession of legal documents permitting work in Kenya for the position of Regional Food Security Specialist – Remote Monitoring (RFSS-RM). The position is based in Nairobi however, applicants from other countries within East Africa region where FEWS NET has a legal presence may be considered for this post.
****Position Description****
The East Africa Regional Food Security Specialist-Remote Monitoring (RFSS-RM) is a member of the East Africa regional technical team and will work under the technical direction of the East Africa Regional Technical Manager (RTM) who serves as the technical and administrative head of that region. The activities of the RFSS-RM will include;
Efficient, focused food security monitoring, early warning analysis and providing input to response planning.
Effective communication of this analysis to partners and decision-makers through high quality remote monitoring reports and briefings.
Leading the technical reporting for FEWS NET and related food security activities in Burundi, Rwanda and Djibouti initially and any other remote monitoring countries that maybe covered by the East Africa regional office.
Network development and management, in collaboration with key partners, in countries covered by the RFSS-RM.
The RFSS-RM will be required to travel intensely within the three remote monitorting countries in the region, and some international travel in sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and the United States may be required.
Qualifications
At minimum, a Master’s degree in a discipline that is directly relevant to food security analysis
At least five years of relevant country (preferably Rwanda, Burundi or Djibouti) or regional experience in early warning/food security information systems, food security analysis, as well as other related fields;
GIS applications and mapping skills;
Excellent computer skills;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coordinating with partners and stakeholders;
Supervisory, management, and donor coordination experience; and
Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
Excellent command of French and English;
