Summary of the position: This is a position responsible for developing, planning and project managing a strong list of market-oriented Science titles that achieve market approval and sales to meet the strategic objectives of OUPEA.
The Science Editor will be tasked with mentoring other editors, and project managing an allocated number of titles that will help grow the Science lists from ECDE through Secondary school levels.
Key duties and responsibilities
The Science Editor will develop comprehensive, high quality educational teaching materials for both learners and teachers to appropriate markets.
The Editor will also conduct market research and incorporate findings into new and existing products.
The Science Editor will build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the education sector and authors; providing guidance during the development of publications that offer innovative solutions to learners and teachers and which will grow a profitable business for OUPEA.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
The position requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree preferably in Education with a major in Biology / Chemistry combined with at least three years relevant publishing experience.
The ideal candidate should have at least two years experience in project planning and management of own titles from conceptualization to pre-press.
Teaching experience, with a proven track record of consistent high performance, will be an added advantage.
In addition, the individual must demonstrate a thorough understanding and knowledge of the dynamics of the Education systems and markets in East Africa.
